After a day filled with the delights of Burberry, Todd Lynn and Erdem, the London Fashion Week crowd wound down at the AEG & Lavazza launch party to end day four of Spring Summer ’12.

Press, buyers and designers alike relaxed with champagne and a performance by Bluey Robinson in Tom’s Cafe, situated amongst the ornamental heights of Somerset House. Catch backstage highlights from LFW here, and find out how top models like their coffee.

Thanks to Lavazza, endless cappuccinos and espressos were truly the fuel of the LFW crowd. After supplying quality Italian coffee for nine years to Fashion Week, Lavazza launched their stylish new espresso machine, the Modo Mio Favola. So everyone along with Tara PT and Erin O’Connor raised their glasses to the union of exquisite coffee and exquisite fashion.

We’re all getting beyond sick of the rain/snow in London. Light at the end of the tunnel – in the shape of June, July, August - is the only thing keeping us from freezing to death (mentally, of course).

We’re eagerly awaiting the days we can wear flowing dresses, flip flops, sun glasses and flowers in our hair (we evidently live in the 60s!).
Feeling reminiscent of Summer, I’ve decided to put together key pieces I am dying to wear.

Firstly, the craze with all things Mother of Pearl continues with these adorable day-to-night shorts

I am absolutely head over heels (I’m talking Alexander McQueen’s 12-inch here) in love with Maia Norman’s Mother of Pearl S/S 2010 collection.

It’s no secret that I adore maxi dresses, but this Mother of Pearl maxi is something else.

It makes my current collection of maxis feel like an old friend you’re sick of because a new, more stylish friend came along that, of course, makes you look and feel better and who doesn’t want that? Bye old friend.

The beautiful Insecticide print by Mat Collishaw also comes in the shape of a stunning sequin jacket and sexy shorts. Definitely a favourite from the collection.

A Single Man

One word describes this film: BEAUTIFUL. Tom Ford is clearly a magnificent artist who was born to amaze the world with everything he touches.

Stunning attention to detail is apparent through the whole film, from George Falconer’s decadent apartment, his immaculate nails, perfectly styled hair, crisp white ties and not to mention the suits. The suits. The suits. The suits. We didn’t think Colin Firth could look any more handsome, but with Tom Ford’s touch of a simple thin tie, Firth is fast becoming the new George Clooney (THE sexiest man on planet-just to clarify).

The film is set in 1960s Los Angeles where native Brit George Falconer (Colin Firth) is finding it difficult to cope with the death of Jim (Matthew Goode), his partner of 16 years. George goes about his daily routine before he plans to commit suicide at night. The preparation of his suicide makes him reminisce of his life with Jim with whom he fell in love with at first sight. George spends his day with his best friend Charley (Julianne Moore), student Kenny Potter (Nicholas Hoult) and Spanish immigrant Carlos (Jon Kortajarena) all who change his mind on committing suicide.

What makes this film so great is that Ford combines such a simple story line with an arresting mise-en-scene. The film has Tom Ford written all over it – I’m not just talking about the suits. Ford financed the film and thus had full control over it. Let’s think of this as an extra stylish indie film.
One you must see.

Ladies gone Gaga

Eccentric was the word of the night at the 30^th Annual Brit Awards held in Earl’s Court on Tuesday. Comments and gasps were most obviously hailed at Lady Gaga who wore a flamboyant white-tiered gown. Underneath, she revealed a sheer bodysuit with lace detail, which could have passed as high fashion had she not worn a towering wig that resembled a paper mache disaster. The acceptance speech tears were obviously from the pain of holding up the ridiculous wig, rather than genuine gratitude.

Lily Allen followed in Gaga’s footsteps with an orange wig hoping “to distract away from the cameras”. Will someone please explain the meaning of ‘discreet’ to Allen who stuck out like a wannabe Gaga. Nice try.

On the red carpet, she posed in a Chanel bin liner with a Russian folklore-style bib. It was an overall wardrobe disaster for the 24-year-old who did, however, walk away a winner of the British female solo artist award.

Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine, looked glamorous in a metallic bodice mini dress while Courtney Love was the embodiment of a fashion catastrophe in Miu Miu.

The Brit Awards was Lady Gaga’s night in every sense as she walked away the prominent winner of three awards and all eyes on her.

Kindred Sole ladies up for an award

In December, I wrote about about a new e-tailer Kindred Sole set up by Lizze Leary and Beth Widdowson. Fast forward 2 months and the ladies are up for the Start-up Award in The 2010 Women on their Way Awards.

Awards will be announced on 19 March.

Alexander Wang revealed his Fall 2010 collection today. It was hard not to notice the vampire-esque sexiness to his show. Full of black, deep red and lots of skin- I love it!

World has lost McQueen of fashion

Born in East London, the 40-year-old defined British fashion. A brilliant designer who influenced style over the last 15 years, Alexander McQueen started his career by designing dresses for his three sisters. He styled everyone from the royal family to the royal catwalk.

So innovative, McQueen beat John Galliano as head designer at Givenchy in 1996.

His greatest achievements includes being one of the youngest designers to achieve the title “British Designer of the Year”, a title he won four times between 1996 and 2003.

Known as a fashion rebel, Alexander-real name Lee- was supposed to celebrate 20 years in fashion this year.

His death is being treated as suicide post his mother’s death earlier this month.

How ethical are you?

I am writing a piece (for my Fashion Journalism course) about ethics in fashion. So, I need to know just how ethical you people are. Do you care where your clothes come from, who makes them, what they are made from? Do you buy ethical clothing? Why? And if you do not, why not? Feedback is very appreciated.
